Hebou Shield will help lift cricket standard: Vala

Hebou PNG Barramundis captain believes playing in the Hebou Shield – PNG’s first-class domestic competition – will definitely help to lift the level of the game in the country.

Assad Vala said the competition will also help senior players in the Men’s and Women’s national teams impart their knowledge and skills to players who have dreams of representing the country.

“The Hebou Shield gives us the practice we need to prepare for international meets throughout the year. Also, we can teach the younger players how the game should be played on and off the field.

“It will definitely help lift the level of cricket,” said Vala.

Vala was supported by Barramundis teammate, Jack Vare, adding the Hebou Shield will help to unearth new talent that is out there.

“This competition will give the opportunity to showcase the talent in the Barramundis and Lewas squads as well as identify new talent outside the squads,” said Vare.

Captain of the City Pharmacy PNG Lewas, Pauke Siaka, and teammate Tanya Ruma, said they were both excited ahead of the Hebou Shield.

The 2017 Hebou Shield will swing into action tomorrow with Men’s and Women’s matches.
