Global Development Squad go down by 87 runs

The International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s Global Development Squad (WGDS) went down to Sydney Thunder by 87 runs in their second match on Monday afternoon at Blacktown, Sydney.

Batting first, Sydney Thunder smashed the ICC WGDS around Blacktown Oval to post an imposing 1/200 off their allotted 20 overs. Stalenberg (100) was the star for the Thunder smashing a century while former Australian Women’s Captain, Alex Blackwell (51*) made an impressive unbeaten half century.

City Pharmacy PNG Lewas’ bowlers Kaia Arua (0/29) and Ravini Oa (0/32) were unable to pick up any wickets.  

In reply, the ICC WGDS were restricted to 6/113 off their allotted 20 overs with Nattakan Chantham (36) from Thailand and Sterre Kalis (20) from Netherlands top scoring for the WGDS. Neither Arua, Oa and Veru Kila Frank batted for the ICC WGDS.

This WGDS is a joint initiative between the ICC, Cricket Australia and the Rebel Women’s Big Bash League with the aim to give players and coaches the chance to learn from each other, test their skills against world-class teams and experience new training environments and culture.   

The WGDS will be playing matches against Sydney Thunder, Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes from 19-23rd November in Sydney.  

The match for the WGDS will be against the Brisbane Heat today at Blacktown.
