Germany, Korea DPR and France among top eight

The top eight of the 2016 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup has been decided, which includes favourites Germany, Korea DPR and France.

Germany, Korea DPR and France finished in the top four at the last World Cup tournament hosted by Canada in 2014.

The top eight, out of 16 teams, was determined following the group round robin matches where the top two teams of each group advanced to the quarterfinals.

Reigning champions German topped Group D, Korea DPR topped Group A and France finished second in Group C.

Among the top eight are Brazil from Group A, Japan and Spain from Group B, United States from Group C and Mexico from Group D.

Host team PNG, Sweden, Nigeria, Canada, Ghana, New Zealand, Korea Republic and Venezuela have bowed out of the tournament.

The quarterfinals will be played from November 24-25 at the National Football Stadium.

The quarterfinals will see German take on France, Japan to play Brazil, Korea DPR will battle with Spain and United States will play Mexico.

The World Cup tournament is underway in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, from November 13-December 3.
