Former PNG Kumuls to parade on Sunday

Former Papua New Guinea Kumuls living in Port Moresby and nearby Central Province will be paraded at the Oil Search National Football Stadium before the kick-off of the final Pool C World Cup game.

The match will be between the PNG LNG Kumuls and USA Hawks on Sunday.

PNG Rugby Football League chairman Sandis Tsaka said this is to honour our past heroes for the foundations they set, leading to the success and recognition we enjoy today.

“The former Kumuls were organised by Mark Mom and a meeting was arranged with the PNGRFL CEO Reatau Rau in September to make this happen.

“This is the ideal time to pay tribute to these players of the past,” Tsaka said. “We will have our very first Kumul captain and appropriately Kumul number one Paul Chue, who led our first ever Kumul team against Great Britain here in Port Moresby in 1975, to lead the parade.”

He said only the Port Moresby based former Kumuls would attend.

“We counted about 30 of them in the city and nearby Central Province already,” Tsaka said.

He urged them to come to the PNGRFL headquarters at 1pm today (Friday) for a briefing, collect their shirt and get a photo taken.

CEO Reatau Rau can be contacted on 7338 5053 or Ephata Samuel on 7277 7883 if further information is needed.

“Otherwise turn up at 1pm today at the PNGRFL office at the National Football Stadium.”

The PNGRFL Chairman thanked the 2017 RLWC committee in Port Moresby, headed by Tasman Samuel, for allowing this special occasion to be held before the third Pool C Game between PNG LNG Kumuls and USA Hawks.
