Football Federation PNG aiming to start comp in NGI

Football Federation PNG has spread its reach into the New Guinea Islands with plans to get a competition up and running in East New Britain by October of next year.

This comes after a successful meeting between the President of FFPNG, John Kapi Natto and ENB Sports Development Authority held last week.

“I told the board of the ENB Sports Development Authority that Kokopo is the centre point of the New Guinea Islands and FFPNG would like to align with the New Guinea Islands in promoting football with the National Premier League to commence on October 6, 2018, “said Kapi Natto.

He said the outcome of the meeting was positive.

“The board were very happy and very supportive.”

Kapi Natto said teams there will be six men’s teams that will be playing in the NGI Conference of the NPL. Teams will come from Manus, Kimbe and Kimbe and will be based in Kokopo.

He said there are also plans in place to introduce a women’s competition in the future.

“I take my hat off to former Prime Minister and Chairman of the ENB Sports Development Authority, Sir Rabbie Namaliu and his board members for allowing FFPNG into Kokopo. This is going to be the first of its kind. I’m very excited about this.

Kapi Natto finished by saying the Highlands will be targeted next to try bring FFPNG into the region.

“One of our main visions is to primarily focus on the grassroots and take the game of football to them throughout the four regions of the country.”
