FINA to run open water clinic

A FINA Open Water Swimming Clinic for officials will be held in Port Moresby next month in April from the 27th-29th.

This has been made possible through the Papua New Guinea Swimming Inc with the cooperation of FINA through its Development and Educational programs and corporate sponsor, Bank South Pacific.

President of PNGSI, Liz Wells, said the FINA clinic is designed to educate and train technical officials, ensuring they are given the opportunity to develop their skills and further the development of aquatics within the country.

She said FINA Technical Open Water Swimming Committee and Open Water Technical Director, William Ford, has accepted the invitation from FINA to conduct this clinic.

FINA strongly believes in the importance of having a globally-respected workforce of coaches and officials with an established and consistent curriculum, as a key factor for the athlete development and the correct appliance of the FINA officiating rules.

The Open Water Technical Officials Clinic will conclude with an Open Water Competition at the Naval Base, Fairfax Harbour, on Sunday 29th.

This will be an opportunity for those who enjoy the sport of open water swimming and for those vying for a place on the 12th Oceania Swimming Championship Open Water event.

A 2.5km and a 5km swim will be held.

"PNGSI requests all technical officials wishing to take part in the 12th Oceania Championships to attend the clinic. This is a great opportunity to come together and run through the Open Water rules.

"Contact PNGSI Chief Technical Officer, Kathleen Maskelyne, of your availability."
