Dai guides Barras home to first win

The Hebou PNG Barramundis registered their first win in the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) Premier League with a three wicket win over Western Grit in Darwin over the weekend.

This was thanks largely to a century from Barras’ veteran all-rounder, Mahuru Dai, with his knock of 126 off 76 balls.

In a reduced 30 over match, Western Grit batted first and smashed their way to finish at 4/260. Callum Ferguson led the way for his side, hitting 91 runs.

Nosiana Pokana (2/47), Mahuru Dai (1/43) and Norman Vanua (1/48) were the only wicket takers for the Barras.

The Barras got off to a disastrous start, slumping to 4/52 inside the first eight overs.

Captain Assad Vala (79) and Mahuru Dai (126) led the fight back, belting 203 runs for the fifth wicket in only 20 overs to put the Barras back in the driver’s seat.

Vala and Dai were eventually dismissed by Spencer Johnson (3/36).

But John Boge Reva (0*) and Vanua (1*) were able to guide the Barras to an unlikely victory with only three wickets in hand, and three balls to spare.
