BREAKING: NRL, police launch probe into Burgess incident

Incoming Dragons prop George Burgess is being investigated by NSW Police and the NRL integrity unit over an alleged incident on the NSW south coast.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Burgess left his vehicle after being filmed by another driver.

The England international allegedly got out of his car and took the other driver’s phone.

Burgess will reportedly claim that the other driver was the aggressor in the situation.

St George Illawarra told the NRL integrity unit after police were informed of the incident.

Burgess left the Rabbitohs at the end of 2019, moving to Super League club Wigan.

The prop took up a rich deal with the English club but was hampered by a recurring hip injury.

He was released, undergoing surgery before securing a deal with the Dragons earlier last month.

He will link up with the club on a two-year contract.

The Dragons released a statement on Wednesday in which they said: “St George Illawarra are aware of an alleged road incident involving 2022 recruit George Burgess.

“The NRL integrity unit have been informed.

“As the police are currently investigating the matter, the Dragons will be making no further comment at this stage.”
