Barras lose by 84 runs

The Hebou PNG Barramundis fell by 84 runs to the Australian Indigenous side in their opening match yesterday of the Queensland and Northern Territory tour at Fehberg Park.

Australian Indigenous blasted their way to set a mammoth target, finishing at 9/347 after batting out the full fifty overs.

Runs came from openers Dary Short (86) and Damon Eagon (77) plus other contributions from Ben Abbatanglo (75) and Cameron Trask (45).

The best with the ball for the Barras was Chad Soper (3/60) while John Boge Reva (2/36) and Nosiana Pokana (2/48) also picked up wickets.

The Barras struggled from the start, slumping to 3/28 after seven overs.

Sese Bau (57) and Mahuru Dai (32) tried to get the run chase back on track putting on 60 runs for the fifth wicket.

But wickets continued to fall and the Barras were eventually all bowled out for 263 inside 47 overs.

Sam Doggett (3/34) and Short (3/42) were the pick of the Australian Indigenous bowlers.

The Barras will face Australian Indigenous again this Wednesday at Redlands Ground.

The one month Queensland and Northern Territory tour is in preparation for ICC Intercontinental Cup (ICUP)/World Cricket League Championships (WCLC) Round 6 fixture against Scotland, which will take place in Port Moresby from October 1-8.
