Ally Watt shines for USA

The United States of America (USA) forward, Ally Watt, put on a great performance in the quarterfinal of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup to help her team reach the semifinals.

USA defeated Mexico 2-1 at the Sir John Guise Stadium in front of over 9,000 people in the third quarterfinal of the tournament.

Watt leveled the count, scoring in the second half after coming off the bench, and was awarded the Live Your Goals Player of the Match for her outstanding performance.

The 20-year-old from Colorado Springs said after the game that it was an intense match but her team came back fighting in the second half and got away with the win.

“I would do everything for my team and when I’m told to do something, I try my best to execute the game plan.

“That’s my role for this team as I know that everyone else is playing their role in the team so I want to play my role as well.

“Mexico got ahead of us but we knew that we had to go on fighting so we did exactly that,” Watt said.

USA coach Michelle French said Watt has always been that game changer for the team.

“With her pace and ability to make quality runs behind the backline, it’s a massive advantage for us to know that we have her coming in off the bench.

“Her goal celebrations, all the smiles she has on her face and the emotions that she shows are everything about this team and I’m so happy for her,” the coach said.

Watt has scored two goals so far in the tournament, her first goal against New Zealand in the round matches and the second in the quarterfinal against Mexico.
