Albert, Wera named in 20-man squad

Vice-captain, Wellington Albert, will become SP Hunter #50 when he makes his debut.

Furthermore, the experienced Adex Wera makes a return to the side that will take on the Easts Tigers at home at the National Football Stadium this Sunday at 3pm.

These are the only two changes in the 20-man extended squad for the round two clash that was named this afternoon by SP Hunters assistant coach, Nigel Hukula.

“Wellington will make his debut in the SP Hunters colours for the first time this weekend. He comes in place of Ismael Balkawa,” said Hukula.

“The doctor has given him the all clear to play and he will become Hunters player #50 when he runs on at some stage during the game. It will be a big occasion for the youngster, especially at home.

“It’s good to have Adex Wera back in the side after he missed round one due to visa issues. We all know his capabilities and what he can bring with his experience around the ruck.”

Reflecting on last weekend’s game, Hukula said defence was one area that needed a lot of work.

“The boys are still getting used to each other, but credit to them for sticking it out until the end last weekend.

“We really need to lift on our defensive efforts this weekend,” reiterated Hukula.

The 20-man squad is:

1) Bland Abavu, 2) Butler Morris, 3) Adex Wera, 4) Willie Minoga, 5) William Aquila, 6) Israel Eliab, 7) Ase Boas (captain), 8) Henry Wan, 9) Sailas Gahuna, 10) Esau Siune, 11) Nixon Put, 12) David Loko, 13) Stanton Albert, 14) Lawrence Tu’u, 15) Wellington Albert, 16) Enock Maki, 17) Moses Meninga, 18) Karo Kauna Jr, 19) Ismael Balkawa, 20) Watson Boas

The visiting Easts Tigers will arrive in Port Moresby on Saturday.
