With everything on the line, individual players and teams’ performance rose to a new level and spectators were treated to outstanding displays of youth AFL talent.
In the U/13 girls grand final - Kokopo primary defeated Vunapope primary 25 to 8.
Whilst Ulagunan primary, 18, beat, Kabaleo primary, 17, in the U13 boys match.
In the U15 boys, Vunapope primary, 22, beat Kalamanagunan primary, 8, Kokopo primary took out Baliora Primary 32-2.
Trophies were presented to the winning teams of each division, and AFL merchandise prizes were awarded to the best on ground player for each playoff match.
Playoff matches were played to determine final placings in each division (1-8).
“All players demonstrated the values of teamwork, discipline, and fair play over the 10-week competition, and all players have dramatically increased their AFL skill level over 10 weeks of training and playing,” AFLPNG Australian volunteer Ben Vile said.
AFLPNG Development Officer Alfred Samario congratulated all 32 teams from the 8 participating schools, along with their teachers and team managers, for dedicating their time to organise all players.
