3X3 basketball action on this Good Friday

The Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea (BFPNG) will be hosting its inaugural Easter 3X3 Basketball Challenge this Good Friday at the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre (TAIC).

The Easter Challenge will be the first major 3X3 tournament of this kind conducted by the National Federation and a high number of teams are expected to participate across the four competition divisions.

CEO of BFPNG, Joel Khalu said along with the senior men’s and senior women’s divisions, junior players will also have the opportunity to do battle in the half court, with categories open to under 18 boys and under 18 girls.

Khalu added the 3X3 style was well suited to basketball players throughout the country.

“3X3 hoops is dynamic and fast-paced, so it’s a perfect fit for our Papua New Guinean athletes.

“It’s also a game that generates great flair, which is fantastic for spectators. Games only last ten minutes, but those ten minutes bring non-stop, exciting action.

“Teams will face-off at the TAIC on Friday, playing throughout the day until champions are crowned in each division. “

To win the whole thing, some teams may end up playing six, seven or eight games in one day, so they’ll definitely be an element of fitness involved.

“It’s also an ideal way for social players to have fun and get some fitness in to kick start their Easter weekend,” said Khalu.

He finished saying teams wishing to participate need to complete a registration form and return that to the BFPNG office at TAIC, with their K50 nomination fee before close of business on Wednesday, April 12.

The tournament draw will be designed on Thursdayand the first games of the event tip-off at 10am on Friday morning.
