11 National Federations sign MOU

National Federations in PNG have been working together with High Performance Sport PNG (HS PNG) since its inception almost 4 years ago.

They have recognised the value and need for support by formally partnering with HPS PNG to continue their ongoing national programs and preparations through its expertise, programs and services.

After hosting a Champions Workshop early this month, eleven National Federations have formalised their partnership to collaborate in key areas of High Performance, already signing an MOU, with more to follow after completing the formalities by the end of the month.

Badminton President, Kinivanagi Karo said the federation is very excited to sign the agreement and is a way forward for all their athletes, all their coaches and the sport as a whole.

“We are very excited to embark on this journey.

“With the 2019 Games several months away, 15 months to be exact, our athletes need to be on top of their game and we know that signing this agreement with HP will see that they able to compete effectively.

“This is opening the floodgates for our athletes as they will be catered well by HP and we know that HP will be able to do that."

Basketball Federation of PNG President, Nick Daroa shared similar sentiments adding they will need HPS PNG to assist them with the upcoming U15 National Championships for both girls and boys in June as they prepare for the FIBA Oceania U15 Championships in the first week of December.

“By April and May, we would like to talk to start talking with HP to see how best they can come in and assist us in Talent Identification and also to work with us on the area of athlete welfare, conditioning of the young boys and girls getting them prepared for the major event in December.”

National Federations that have signed their MOU with HPS PNG include Basketball, Bodybuilding, Hockey, Judo, Karate, Netball, Powerlifting, Rugby Union, Softball, Swimming and Volleyball. Other NFs who have indicated a date to sign this month are Cricket, Vaá, AFL, Taekwondo, Boxing, Karate, Table Tennis along with the Paralympic Committee.
