Weather service to revive stop work

The PNG National Weather Service has announced that its withheld nationwide work stoppage will now be re-enforced.

It will come into effect at close of business today (January 5).

The National Weather Service says it is reviving the stop work after the Department of Transport failed, yet again, to amicably address the concerned issues on time as verbally assured.

The initial intention for this industrial action was merely placed on hold due to the following reasons:

  1. The verbal assurance from Secretary of Department of Transport to resolve NWS’ ongoing salary discrepancies issue by pay one of 2018 financial year
  2. Twenty one days’ notice to Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) as per section 310 of the Civil Aviation Act 2000 (as amended)
  3. The safety of Papua New Guinea’s aviation and shipping industries, maritime communities, travelling public as well as the general population over the festive period.

The stop work will be for an indefinite period until the agreed resolutions to the employees’ grievances are sorted out accordingly.
