Warrant of arrest executed in Manus

Police in Manus have executed a warrant of arrest on two Asylum Seekers who failed to turn up at the Lorengau District Court last week.

The men of Irianian origin were arrested by local police on New Years Eve in Manus and were charged with drunk and disorderly behavior and resisting police arrest.

They failed to turn up in court before Magistrate Josephine Nidu last Wednesday which resulted in a warrant of arrest issued for their apprehension.

Acting Provincial Police Commander Senior Inspector David Yapu said both men;  26-year-old Mehdi Bohlouli and 28-year-old Mahbomb Rabbani Mohammad have been picked up by local police at the Regional Processing Center.

“Mehdi Bohlouli was reported sick and taken back to the center for medical treatment while the other, Mahbomb Rabbani Mohammad is being locked up in police custody,” PPC Yapu said.

They are being kept in custody of police because their respective bail of K200 was forfeited to the state when they failed to turn up in court last week.

Both men are expected to appear at the Lorengau District Court this Wednesday.
