UOG will not charge a graduation fee

The University of Goroka (UOG) will not charge any graduation fee for students graduating this year.

UOG vice-chancellor Professor Musawe Sinebare confirmed that the cost for staging the graduation has always been budgeted for and there’s no new additional cost that will be offloaded to the students.

Sinebare said, “The students do not have to pay anything to graduate.

“They’ve already earned their grades and the graduation ceremony is an occasion to present them their certificates of achievement and a celebration of their efforts.

“We are not going to put more burdens on the parents to find money under the current economy conditions to pay a graduation fee,” Sinebare said.

Sinebare added that the university is only charging the usual K300-K400 for gown hire and is not looking for opportunity to increase that to make money.

About 1,000 students are expected to graduate on April 28 with a few gaining their Masters and two to receive their Doctorate degrees to be awarded.

Preparations are well underway with guest of honor chief secretary Isaac Lupari confirmed to attend.
