Suspects charged for wearing police uniforms

Two suspects have been arrested and charged for “unauthorised wearing of police uniforms and being in possession of firearms”.

NCD/Central Police Commander, Sylvester Kalaut, says the two suspects were performing police duties and were in police uniform at Gerehu along Toliman Street yesterday, at around 3pm, alongside a regular member of the force.

The two accused, Vincent Friday of Konos Village, Central New Ireland, and Junior Morea of Porebada Village, were apprehended and taken in for interrogation by the Police Internal Affairs Office.

Police managed to confiscate 4 firearms; a K1A1 rifle with 6 rounds inside, a black .38 Smith and Wesson revolver with 12 rounds and a brown homemade pistol. This was when one of the suspects was sighted driving a Ranger Ford that belonged to the NCD Police Force.

Kalaut said the two vehicles are now in the possession of police while the three suspects were questioned, with the third suspect released upon confirmation that he was a reservist.

The 3 firearms, excluding the homemade gun, are confirmed to be police issued firearms.

The two suspects have formally been taken into custody and arrested under Section 138 of the Police Act.
