Spirit of service and sacrifice must remain with young

Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, says the sprit of service and sacrifice must remain with the young generation.

O’Neill said this during the Dawn Service commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the ANZAC Day.

Many young people from Australia, New Zealand, and PNG were present during the commemoration and the Prime Minister welcomed them to pay their respects.

“The spirit of service and the commemoration of sacrifice must live with our young generation. Young Papua new Guineas, young Australians, New Zealanders, British, the American, Japanese and all other nations must learn from the lessons of war,” he said.

O’Neill highlighted the Battle of Kokoda saying it was one of the most hard fought battles during the second World War.

He also recognised other battles fought in other parts of the country such as Milne Bay, Morobe, Madang, Sepik, Manus, East New Britain, Bougainville and other areas as well.

“Today we pay tribute to the soldiers, the sailors, the airmen and airwomen, and to our own war carriers and the medical orderlies who took part in this conflicts.”

He said this year was another key milestone.
