Sea piracy and murder suspects surrender to police

Police have arrested two suspects from Tatana village involved in the murder and sea piracy at Motukea wharf in the National Capital District.

Police from the Waigani Police Station acting upon information went into Tatana village around 7pm that same evening and arrested two suspects namely, Anapa Resena aged 23 years and Siyen Kevin aged 22 years.

Both suspects voluntary surrendered and were taken to Waigani cells to be locked up and are awaiting further investigation. The other three suspects are known and will be arrested soon.

Both suspects are believed to be among a group of five men who attacked Captain Malakai Sijou on October 7th.

Gobe Freight Services Marine crew reported on the 7th of October 2017 around 1pm that the deceased Captain Sijou from Manus, was attacked by sea pirates.

The Captain was travelling on his dingy to the AES wharf at Motukea to refuel empty water containers when he was confronted by five suspects who came in another dingy and attacked him.

After Captain Sijou was attacked and thrown overboard, the pirates then stole the 30 HRS outboard motor and escaped.

Captain Sijou swam to shore for help but died before rescuers’ came to his aid. The whole incident happened while crew from the Gobe Freight Services Marine 02 stood helpless and watched from 200 meters away.

Captain Sijou’s body was assisted on a dingy and later taken to the hospital morgue.

The stolen 30HRS powered motor was recovered and is kept at the Water Police office pending investigation.

Police are appealing to the public for further information on three other suspects still at large.
