Rural village praised for launching development association

The people of Notofana Village in rural Goroka LLG, Eastern Highlands Province were praised for the imitative of establishing a development association.

The Gasagasa Development Association (GDA) was launched this week with a mission to empower rural village people with life skills and knowledge while bringing basic services to the community.

Most of its goals are adapted from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Police officer Sargent Naomi Mara of Rural & Urban in Policing congratulated the people for forming the association in their village as this will help cut down on law and order problems.

Mara said, “It is one of the greatest steps of what you can do for yourselves instead of waiting for government services.

“Through this association you will be able to come together and work together to achieve a peaceful and justice community.

“You will be able to work with government agencies, non-government organisation and donors to change your life and your future.”

GDA aims to build a rural public library that will serve about 500 people that live in the area and nearby villages including Kofica, Kabiufa, Gamuga and Makiroka.

The library project will include a learning centre for women and girls.
