RPNGC structure reviewed

For an organisation to realise its maximum potential, a definitive and distinctive working overview structure is needed.

The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) is no different.

After 26 years since an overview structure was produced for the RPNGC, Commissioner for Police, Gari Baki, presented its latest and reviewed structure for the constabulary to the Department of Personnel Management.

During the SOM1 meetings last month, Baki made it clear that it was the constabulary’s intention to support the government’s plans in ensuring that the minimum service delivery framework at National Planning talks must be complemented in the structure.

Baki also made specific references during the summit that the RPNGC will be presenting its revised and final proposed structure to the Department of Personnel Management to compliment the government’s intentions for improved service delivery.

“Our team has come back with the outcome of the structure that will be forwarded to DPM and National Planning so that they understand in terms of our intentions for service delivery,” says Commissioner Baki.

Assistant Commissioner for Police in charge of human resource, Sylvester Kalaut, stated the current structure that is in use at the moment is 26 years old.

He said considering the demands of policing, the number and size of police have increased drastically while the structure still remained the same.

OIC Organization & Methods Unit, John Bana-Koiri, said it took the structure review team three years to put the new reviewed structure together.

The overview review will be put through to the Department of Personnel Management for the normal process to take its course.
