Road design delayed K200m project: Awesa

Road design had delayed the K200 million highway construction in South Bougainville for the last 8 months.

However, Works Minister Francis Awesa gave the assurance that work will start soon as the Department of Works and the contractor have finally agreed on the design component of construction road from Kangu to Kokopau.

He reiterated that the 64km road work was a design and build contract where K80 million had already been paid for mobilisation works.

Awesa was responding to questions from South Bougainville MP, Timothy Masiu, in Parliament on Friday.

Masiu questioned why major road works had not started on the National Government funded project, where the contractor has only dug up sections of the highway.

He also asked if the Government had plans to seal the highway from Buin to Panguna to complete the main highway in Bougainville, which was affected by the recent earthquake.
