Rabaul joins in custom recording exercise

A project carried out by the Constitutional and Law Reform Commission to record customary laws in the country will now include Rabaul district.

This project at the national level with the recording of customs in Manus two years ago by the PNG Judiciary.

Rabaul is the second district to enter into such an arrangement, after the Tewai-Siassi district in Morobe province, following the signing of an MoU in Port Moresby today.

The signing was between the CLRC Secretary Dr Eric Kwa, Civil Identity Registry Office Acting Registrar General Noel Mobhia and Rabaul MP Dr. Allan Marat.

The MoU will see officers from CLRC travel to Rabaul district to record their customs as part of the law reform project being carried out, while officers from the Civil Identity Registry Office also use the same bandwagon to register those in the district for NID.

All three will assist with funding for the exercise.
