The festive season operation in Rabaul District, East New Britain commenced today, Thursday 22 December 2022.
This special operation from 22nd of December 2022 to 4th of January 2023, is coordinated by the Rabaul District Law and Justice Sector and will be conducted in the four LLGs of Balanataman, Kombiu, Rabaul Urban and Watom Island in the District.
This operation will be led by the Rabaul Police Station Command and will involve the combined efforts of the Ward Law & Justice Committees and Village Court officials.
Rabaul District Administrator, Benedict Mode said the operation will mainly be at the LLGs with a specific focus on preventive measures to ensure a safe and harmonious festive season for the people of Rabaul District.
He said emphasis will be more on conducting awareness and normal policing dealing with petty crimes, common lawlessness and mediation meetings to deal with minor social issues in the wards.
This will be the second time the district will take this approach considering the low rate of lawlessness in Rabaul District over the festive season.
Other illegal activities that will be monitored during this operation includes, illegal gambling, unlawful break and entering stealing, public nuisance, noise pollution, possession of illegal weapons, drunk and disorderly in public places, extraction of explosives from Tunnel Hill and other Japanese tunnels.
This will also follow with checks on street sales & shop front markets, traffic cases, major cases, monitoring of released Juvenile suspects, surveillance Point Of Entry, illegal collection of money, roadside cleaning of debris, body search on suspicious people and outstanding escapees.
Apart from these, the ENB Council of Churches too has organised activities for the Districts of Rabaul and Kokopo for the festive season in which the Rabaul District shall cordially support during this festive season operations.
The District special festive operation was endorsed by the Provincial Law and Order Committee in a meeting held on 14th December 2022.
