Provincial Health Authorities to be nationwide by 2018

All provinces in the country will have Provincial Health Authorities by June 2018.

Health Minister, Sir Puka Temu, made the announcement today in Parliament when responding to the West New Britain Governor, Sasindran Muthuvel.

Muthuvel asked whether the Provincial Health Authorities are still in control of the rural health center’s and aid posts.

"There's confusion on the roles of looking after the district hospitals and aid posts.

"Is it the Provincial Government to look after the rural hospitals or the Provincial Health Authority?"

Howeve, Sir Puka, responded saying the role of the Provincial Health Authority covers every hospitals in the province.

"The Provincial Health Authority was created to cater for the hospitals and not the Provincial Government.

"However, it is also important for the Provincial Government administration, to take heed of the Provincial Health Authorities needs as well."

Meanwhile Parliament has been adjourned to 10am tomorrow.
