The Medical Society of Papua New Guinea is hosting the 53rd Medical Symposium in Port Moresby at the Stanley Hotel from Sunday 3rd – 8th of September 2017.
The theme for this year is “Access to Safe Surgery and Safe Anaesthesia” with the aim of drafting a National Surgical and Anesthetic policy at the end of the symposium.
The Symposium will be Co-Hosted by the 2017 Medical Symposium Committee, led by the Chairman Dr. Osborne Liko, and the Deputy Chairman Dr. Duncan Dobunaba.
Chairman Dr. Osborne Liko says the scientific papers in the symposium will be used by surgical and anesthetics team to formulate a national surgical and anesthetic policy.
“These policies when endorsed by the Medical Society of PNG will be presented to the National Department of Health to be considered for 2021-2030 National Health Plan for budget prioritization and implementation.”
The three day symposium will play host to over 700 participants with several guest speakers from countries abroad.
Dr Liko says the speakers and participants will speak and give guidelines, putting together ideas on the way forward with regards to our health practice situations and issues in the country.
“As part of the Global Community, Medical Society of PNG on behalf of the medical fraternity is proud to announce the theme of this year’s medical symposium which will focus on making surgery and anesthesia, one of the government’s priorities as a way forward resolution at the end of this symposium,” he adds.
