Police station commander to give evidence

The police station commander of the Badili Police Station will give evidence in court during an election petition trial over the Moresby South seat.

The petition was filed challenging second-term Moresby South MP, Justin Tkatchenko’s win, by Samson Kirilyo.

It went for direction hearing where the police station commander was summoned to give evidence.

A date for the trial will be set after the matter returns for pre-trial conference.

Petitioner Kirilyo is alleging that ballot boxes were tampered with at the Badili station before they were brought to the counting venue.

He is alleging that they were tampered with on the night of June 30, after they were collected from the polling booths around the electorate.

He claims that certain boxes were added at the station while the scrutineers were locked out.

A summons order was also issued for the night shift supervisor at the Badili Police Station to give evidence during the trial.
