Police college under spotlight

The Bomana police college has in the past weeks come under the spotlight in terms of the suspension and charging of pass-outs found to be engaging in initiation-like activities.

Bomana Police College commandant, Peter Philip, outlined that ill-discipline and bad conduct will not be tolerated under his command.

Commandant Philip says the police college is a place where young recruits are trained to go out and serve and protect the community.

He said as the Police Commandant, he would not allow such practices of brutality to take place.

While it is an unfortunate incident, the onus is on them to act accordingly as law abiding officers.

The Commandant is adamant that the college must be respected as a place of learning, but adds that it will be a tough experience for new recruits who step out of line.

Meantime, the recently suspended and charged pass-outs at the college have all be given their official charges with the proof of service endorsed and delivered to the internal affairs unit (IAU), who will be directed to begin the administrative process.

Once this is done, the Commandant says the IAU findings will be presented to the police commissioner, who will have the final say about the outcome of the pass-outs.
