Police Barracks for Kagua

The long neglected district of Kagua Erave in Southern Highlands Province has a new Police Barracks with 18 units for policemen and women deployed to this district.

Kagua Erave is known for its notoriety and when the provincial government set out its priorities, it prioritised law and order for this district.

The barracks, built at a cost of 10 million kina was opened on Wednesday.

And that’s not all, a K2 million district office complex was also opened. This building was also funded by the provincial government.

A total of K20.5 million will have been invested in this district by the provincial government by the end of this parliament term.

Governor of Southern Highlands, William Powi in responding to critics who have been rubbishing his work on social media asked them this; “Displa 10million infrastructure blong police if you no qualifyim olsem development, then you tell me what is this?’’ asked Powi.

He said dishing out cash to friends and supporters was not development and people of Southern Highlands should start embracing change instead of the free handout mentality.

Powi’s commitment to addressing law and order issues in this province goes back to 2014 when the provincial government funded the training of young men specifically to take up posts at this neglected station.

After their trainings were completed, he launched the housing program and delivered the houses to them on Wednesday.

Community leaders around the Kagua area also put forward a number of requests for the governor to consider.

Notable ones were the Health Centre, High School and ring roads in the district.

With his term in office coming to an end soon, governor Powi took note of their requests but told them he will not do much within this short span of time. Whether he delivers these projects or not will be determined by the outcome of the 2017 elections.

He told the people of Kagua Erave to look after the policemen, appreciate services and allow more government services to flow to the district.
