PNGDF monument commemorates fallen soldiers

A monument was officially opened with the names of PNGDF soldiers who have passed on in their line of duty.

The monument is placed at Murray Barracks, in Port Moresby, and includes those who died in the Bougainville Crisis as well as others who have died of natural causes over the years.

PNG Defence Force Commander, Brigadier-General Gilbert Toropo, challenged his officers to serve with pride and passion.

“I call on all officers to reflect on their accomplishments throughout 2016 and make improvements in 2017 on areas they had not performed well in.”
He added that 2016 has been a very challenging year because of limited funds, resources and human capacity. However, they have worn their uniforms with pride and commitment.
“Your passion in serving your call as PNGDF officers had achieved a number of good outcomes.”

He commended the officers for their commitment and urged them to continue and see 2017 as the year of operational excellence and leadership.
