PNG submits proposal to Green Climate Fund

PNG is in the process of putting together a proposal for the Green Climate Fund to access climate finance on renewable energy projects in the country.

The Minister for Civil Aviation, Alfred Manasseh, announced this in Fiji when meeting with the leader of delegation of Indonesia Sri Masripatin during the pre-Conference of Parties (COP) meeting.

Manasseh also informed Masripatin on the proposed initiative to power the Jackson’s International Airport by solar power.

The initiative is as a pilot project which will be powered purely by renewable sustainable energy.

“I expressed PNG’s interest in learning from Indonesia’s experiences on implementing renewable energy projects and accessing climate finance from Green Climate Fund (GCF).

“I also emphasized that both countries should engage in sharing lessons and experiences going forward on this issue. This can be done through the relevant Ministries of both countries,” Manasseh said.
