PNG-Australia Alumni pays tribute to Logie

The Papua New Guinea-Australia Alumni Association (PNGAAA) has expressed sadness at the untimely death of senior public servant Raymond Logie, who is a member of PNGAAA.

He was the executive manager (legislative and administrative reforms) in the Department of Personnel Management (DPM) before his tragic passing.

PNGAAA president Professor Teatulohi Matainaho described his death as a loss to his family, his employer DPM and the nation.

“The late Raymond – upon his return from postgraduate studies at the Australia National University – was tasked to oversee the implementation of key policy initiatives at the DPM.

“His death leaves behind a big hole in the department and public service capacity generally in PNG,” he said.

The PNGAAA and its members throughout the country pass on their condolences to the family and friends of the late Raymond Logie, added Professor Matainaho.

The late Logie was a recipient of an Australia Awards scholarship in January 2012 to undertake postgraduate studies at the Crawford School of Economics & Government at the Australia National University (ANU).

He graduated in December 2013 with a Graduate Diploma in Public Administration (with Merit) and a Master of Public Policy (with Merit) and returned to the DPM at the conclusion of his studies.

The PNGAAA has over 3000 members comprising of Papua New Guineans who have lived and studied in Australia through the Australian Government-funded Australia Awards scholarship program or were privately sponsored.

The late Logie was allegedly shot dead during a heavy downpour at Ela Beach, Port Moresby, on Jan 31. He was the victim of an alleged carjacking, which also claimed the life of another young man.
