PNG’s first doctor to be laid to rest

PNG’s first medical doctor, the Late Dr Sir Reuben Taureka, will be laid to rest at his home village of Maopa in Central Province on Wednesday, December 20th, 2017.

His only daughter from his second marriage, Walio Taureka, described her late father’s December 11 passing as unexpected.

She told this newsroom that he was travelling from his home village to Port Moresby to do the family’s Christmas shopping when he passed away suddenly. This happened after he was complaining of abdominal pains.

Sir Reuben was a hypertension (high blood pressure) and diabetic patient but medically managed and took care of himself to live 89 fruitful years, Walio said.

“His loss comes as a shock but knowing he’s in a peaceful place is comforting enough,” she said.

The funeral service of the former statesman will be held on Monday, December 18th, at the Sir Sione Kami Memorial Church at 1pm.

Sir Reuben is survived by 9 children and 16 grandchildren.
