PM launches transmission lines

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, has arrived in Mt Hagen for the launch of the Mt Hagen to Tari Transmission Line Expansion and Sub Station Project.

Greeted by Western Highlands Governor, Pias Wingti, at Kagamuga Airport, PM O’Neill said he is pleased to be in Mt Hagen again and launching the vital power project.

The transmission line will deliver a 189 kilometer, 132KV, single circuit transmission line between Mt Hagen and Tari.

The power-line corridor will pass through the Western Highlands, Southern Highlands and Hela, and include four step-down substations at Mt Hagen, Mendi, Pauanda and Tari.

This will enable more schools, hospitals, homes and businesses to have lighting, refrigeration and power for machinery, in most cases, where this was never available before.

The Government is expanding reliable access to power rural communities that is an important component in achieving the target of connecting 70 per cent of our population to electricity by 2030.
