Pato confident in hosting APEC

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Rimbink Pato is confident APEC 2018 will draw corporate attention to the many possibilities in the country.

He said APEC 2017 in Vietnam would also provide opportunities to liaise with Australia, New Zealand, Japan and other nations who are assisting PNG to host next year’s event.

“Our friends have generously decided to pitch in.

“Like us, they also see the benefits of connectivity in a globalizing world, and making sure our country is well and truly on the radar for investment and development partnerships.”

Pato will arrive in Vietnam today, and will be talking to investors to consider investing in Papua New Guinea.

He will also take time at the international gathering in Danang to fine-tune arrangements for PNG to host APEC 2018 in Port Moresby.

“Vietnam has already proven to be generous with its invitation arrangements, and we are sure we will learn much from observing and participating in the event,” Pato said.

“Along with Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, I will be attending a reception hosted by ExxonMobil where we will have a dialogue with a group of business executives about investment in Papua New Guinea.

“Our country has so many assets in so many sectors such as minerals, forestry, agriculture and fishing.

“If corporations are prepared to provide technical training, employment, health and infrastructure facilities to local people, overseas corporations can prosper, as can the country in the form of government revenues, royalty payments and export earnings.”
