Padlocked genitalia: Suspect in police custody

A male suspect is now in police custody after allegations that he had sewn his female relative’s genitalia and attached a small padlock to it.

According to police report, this is prior to continuous and severe abuse that had been inflicted by the male suspect, who is a close relative of the woman’s husband.

The 39-year-old man (name withheld) from Oro and Morobe was apprehended around 9am yesterday at Three-Mile, Morobe, following a phone call from a community leader who reported that the suspect was threatening the woman to move back with him to Nine-Mile.

The mother-of-three, who is also a nursing officer, had fled from Nine-Mile with her children after continuous abuse from the suspect.

A beat unit apprehended the suspect, who was caught carrying a ‘Rambo’ knife.

Both the woman and the suspect were then taken to the Three-Mile police station where all was revealed.

After an emotional interview with a female police officer, it was found that the woman had been continuously threatened with knives and guns, and raped on many occasions.

However, it was not until early December last year that the abuse reached an extreme.

The victim revealed that the 39-year-old suspect was a trusted family member from her husband’s side who forcefully moved into their home whilst the husband had gone to Port Moresby in March 2016.

The 37-year-old mother also revealed that to date, she still had the padlock on and went on to say that the man had used sharpened nails for incision on the outer part of her genitalia and attached a small padlock.

He allegedly held onto the keys and would only unlock the padlock when he wished to have sex with her.

The suspect had previously been picked up by Police mid last year for an armed robbery on a PMV Bus at Nine-Mile. However, he was released due to lack of evidence.

The woman has been referred to the Family Sexual Violence Action Committee partners for medical attention and counselling.
