Over K900, 000 raised for HB Fire Appeal

The Hanuabada Village Fire Appeal has raised over K900, 000 with work already in progress to rebuild the 18 houses that were burnt to ashes in August of this year.

Co-chair of the Hanuabada Village Fire Appeal, Dadi Toka Jr said he is pushing to have most of the houses ready before Christmas.

“Work has started. A couple of the houses have started putting in the timber that goes into the mud to set up the foundations of the houses that will go over water.

He added the money raised will cover the houses that were razed to the ground plus those that were partly damaged from the fire.

“At this stage, we’ve got over K900, 000 in the account now which is more than sufficient enough for us to proceed with what we need to as far as rebuilding homes is concerned.

“The families have agreed. The families affected sit in and decisions are made based on what they would like to see.

“At this stage, the families have agreed that each house will cost about K40, 000 and that will sufficiently cover the 18 houses that were completely burnt down and the 22 houses that were partly damaged.”

He finished by expressing his gratitude for all the support since August.

“I thank every individual, every organization, communities, churches and especially the corporate sector that stood up and came forward to our plea in rebuilding these houses. We’re very very lucky.”
