Newly-renovated police station for Goroka

Eastern Highlands Governor Julie Soso officially opened the renovated Goroka Police Station yesterday (Dec 23).

Goroka Police Station, one of the icons of Goroka town, was renovated with K1m from the Provincial Services Improvement Program (PSIP) fund.

"I am impressed with the great work being taken by the contractor to give a facelift to one of our landmark buildings of Goroka," the Governor said.

Divisional Commander Peter Guinness (Northern) commended Soso for the foresight in improving police infrastructure in her province.

The Governor, apart from renovating the building, installed 21 computers while other white goods were purchased by the department through former Commissioner of Police Jeffrey Vaki.

The Governor also sponsored three new Toyota Land Cruisers for police.

Two of those vehicles will be used by community policing officers in both Goroka and Kainantu while the other one will replace an aging Task Force (response unit) vehicle.

Goroka Police Station will be open to public on Christmas Day.

The opening was also witnessed by Commander Nema Mondiai (Highlands – Eastern End), acting Administrator Samson Akunai, and others.
