New organisational structure for archives services

The National Library, Archives and Records Services (NLARS) has developed a new organisational structure with increased staff of 601.

The new structure will drive NLAR’s 10-Year Strategic Plan 2016-2025 forward in achieving its vision, mission and goals.

The strategic plan was officially launched by Minister for Education Nick Kuman yesterday in Port Moresby.

It aims to deliver sustainable, accessible, fair, equal and quality library and archives services to the people according to the National Library and Archives Act 1993.

It also aims to develop and improve NLAR’s internal human resource capabilities, knowledge and skills, develop and implement key policies and directives for sustainable, fair, equal and quality distribution of NLARS.

The objectives of the strategic plan aims to provide and sustain automation and online services, training and development of staff as well.

Office of Libraries and Archives Director General, Kakaito Kasi, says the implementation of this strategic plan will enable NLARS to contribute to improving quality education in the country.

Kasi highlighted that improving quality education can be done by enhancing learning through provision of greater access to information and archive services.

He said library service is very vital to schools for enhancement of teaching and learning.

The strategic plan was simplified for people to take ownership at the national, provincial and district levels.
