New accounting software for PNGFA

The PNG Forest Authority will soon be able to prepare its financial reports correctly and in a timely manner following the signing of an agreement with Alternate Services PNG Limited.

The 5-year agreement will see ASPNG Limited help PNG Forest Authority transfer its financials from Attaché to the new software SAGE 300.

The new accounting software is said to be compatible and will suit the high volume of activities and transactions the Forest Authority does daily.

The use of SAGE 300 is expected to minimise fraud and corruption and improve quality checks before approval is given for payments.

“This is the main thrust of things, without a good accounting system in place, there will be corruption and fraud, resulting in a bad name for the organisation,” said PNGFA Managing Director Tunou Sabuin.

The use of the new software will also enable timely and accurate reporting to the National Forest Board and the government.

The SAGE 300 software package will be linked with the government system, hence the Forest Authority will report to the government how much revenue they collect, including government budget grants, levies and landowner royalties and how much spent on operational costs.

The new software will be delivered and used at a cost of K1 million over the next 5 years.
