NBC East New Britain turns 49

Staff of NBC East New Britain marked 49 years of broadcasting in a small but significant gathering on Saturday 17 December 2022.

The occasion held at Malapau Beach Resort was attended by the Member for Kokopo, Ereman ToBaining Jnr, businesswoman Dame Sandra Lau, Church representative in the ENB Provincial Assembly, Pst Tony Kivung, staff and their families and agency partners.

Acting Director NBC ENB, Dorcas Tindri said NBC will always be the radio medium to be relied upon and despite its faltering and wavering journey, it will still deliver.

She commended all stakeholders for playing a role towards NBC Broadcasts because without their constant program productions be it in entertainment, awareness, education, development in spiritual and socially, NBC ENB would not have performed on another remarkable journey this year.

Miss Tindri cited this year's election coverage where Radio ENB (RENB) topped the overall broadcast coverage with 121 audios supplied to National Radio.

“The reporting standard we set was high in the areas of both radio and TV programs and news and online TV. Election information we gave out was accurate, factual, in a timely manner and reliable and they ran parallel on the different NBC mediums.

“In fact, we paved the way for other radio stations to follow our way of election reporting. There was no magic to this. We executed proper planning, listening and putting it to action, that did the real trick,” a proud Tindri said.

She said the existence of NBC in ENB goes way back before any other radio stations in which staff, major stakeholders and clients must be proud of.

“NBC Rabaul transitioned out from ABC Rabaul in 1967 and this was mainly for government information service which came under the Department of Information and Extension Services. For RENB we have gone past that 49 years of service,” she said.

Tindri said over the years RENB has thrived through stormy weather and comes out stronger than ever to still deliver because of the support from the provincial government and administration, corporate sponsors and clients, other media friends and most importantly support from close family members.

She commended the staff for their hard work and perseverance saying they look forward for the new year 2023 in a better and comprehensive approach with the Provincial Government now that an MOU is in place.
