National online selection launched

The Education Department’s national online selection was launched today in Port Moresby.

During that time, the Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology activated the national selections for 2019 new intakes.

Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Pila Niningi, says higher education institutions, like all service organisations in the world of the digital information era, must seek every means to enhance the quality of service delivery and drive efficiency and cost-savings.

Today’s activation of the 2019 selections means that all Grade 12 School Leavers can now access their National Online Application System to see the selection results.

Higher education Acting Secretary, Fr Jan Czuba, shared the department’s achievements of the national online application system.

Fr Jan said from June 18th-22nd, the department co-hosted a school principals’ conference, where 148 principals activated their online accounts and registered 348 patrons.

“At the beginning of June 2018, we sent invitation letters to 29,000 students,” he stated.

“However, we learnt quickly that approximately 2,300 withdrew so they were not anymore in the schools.

“The Measurement Service Division of the Department of Education was very cooperative and provided us with a list of final results on which we had 26,718 students.”

Fr Jan said students’ results were made available in the system at 8am on Sunday, December 9th.

During the grace period where students were allowed to make changes to their choices, the Department recorded 22,411 unique users on their server.

Digital transformation is not a matter of information and communication technology only, says the Department. It must be supported by visionary leadership and the culture of honesty and commitment.
