Murder cases concerning: Police

Murder cases in East Sepik Province are of great concern to the police, says provincial police commander Robert Gesa.

PPC Gesa told this newsroom recently that about 3 to 4 killings on average are reported per month throughout the province.

He said since taking up post as the new PPC for the province, there is great concern over the number of murder cases that arise from petty arguments.

The PPC noted that most of these killings are somewhat considered a norm and occur following the consumption of alcohol or more specifically, homebrew.

The PPC said many of these cases are dealt with at community level, bypassing the correct process – meaning some or most incidents are never reported to the police.

PPC Gesa further revealed that there are other criminal activities that are happening at an alarming rate in the province, including highway armed robberies and rapes.

In the few months since he has taken up post, he has exhausted all police personnel with these cases.

The PPC has given the assurance that he will ensure police curb down on these pressing criminal activities and make the province peaceful and safe for locals and visitors.
