Madang situation restored

Madang has been restored back to a degree of normalcy following the unrest over a week ago that resulted in the killing of four Madang people and also a tragic beheading of a teacher.

According to the Madang Open Member Bryan Kramer, the body of the teacher has been repatriated back to Ialibu courtesy of the Madang authority and the Madang provincial government.

For now the focus will be on the burial of the four Madang youth that were killed.

The member says that the bodies of the youth are currently at the morgue undergoing autopsies following directions from the coroner’s office.

The bodies will be released back to the families and after a month, following removal of the Hauskrai’s, a memorial will be arranged to acknowledge their deaths.

The four youth that died in Madang will be honored with a memorial resurrected in their honor.

The Madang MP, Bryan Kramer says that they died defending the Madang people.

“These youth were not criminals, these were not agitators”.

The death of the teacher, Kramer reiterates was an isolated incident that had nothing to do with cult.

He says that investigations are now being conducted, adding that he received some information and he will be working with police.

Kramer says that he will ensure that all guilty parties will be apprehended and be brought forward to face the full brunt of the law.

Meantime, the former Chief Justice, Sir Arnold Amet, has also agreed to carry out an independent investigation to establish the circumstances that led to their death as this involved police killing.

Kramer says that if the findings support the view that it was lawful killing then the issue will remain there however if not then he will pursue the matter through the courts for the families to seek rightful compensation from the state as police are agents to the state.
