Madang imposes liquor ban

Liquor ban throughout Madang province will start this Friday 23, December 2022, and end Monday 2nd January, next year. The ban will be lifted on Tuesday 03rd.

Chief Liquor Licensing Commissioner and Madang Provincial Administrator Frank Lau said a copy of the notice has been distributed to liquor shops in town and will also be distributed to the outstations in Ramu, Bogia, and liquor shops along the North and South Coast highways.

Lau has requested the police to assist liquor licensing officers by keeping their eyes peeled on all liquor shops and black markets in the province.

“The hotels, public bars, restaurants and clubs are allowed to serve liquor to their in-house guest only this period and are also reminded that Take Away of Liquor is not permitted. The bottle shops and other liquor trading shops are to strictly adhere to this notice,” Lau said.

He also discourages people to make home brew and sell it during the liquor ban period. This illegally brewed alcohol has led to destruction of lives and property.
