Library and Archives launches 10-year plan

With the aim to improve libraries and archives system in the country, the National Library, Archives and Records Services (NLARS) has launched its 10 Year Strategic Plan 2016-2025.

The strategic plan was officially launched by Minister for Education Nick Kuman today in Port Moresby.

It aims to deliver sustainable, accessible, fair, equal and quality library and archives services to the people according to the National Library and Archives Act 1993.

This plan paves the way for the establishment of the provincial librarian and archivist in the provinces to provide services to the people with only six public libraries operating in the country.

The implementation of the strategic plan will cost K54,500,000.

Kuman said during the launch that the plan provides greater access to information through the library and archives sector.

He called on provincial and district administrations to support the implementation of the plan.

Office of Libraries and Archives Director General, Kakaito Kasi, said they will ensure that many areas in the plan are given that responsiveness by the officers.

Kasi said collaborative efforts are needed from provincial and national governments and development partners to implement the strategy through the use of information under the NLARS.

He said they will provide leadership in implementing the plan.
