Leaders spend more time defending themselves: OC

The Ombudsman Commission is concerned that leaders under investigation tend to spend more time, money and resources defending themselves in tribunals and courts, that they often have very little time for people who elected them into office.

Therefore the Commission is empowering voters for quality leadership through its election awareness program.

Making the right choice! A simple but critical message for eligible voters in the country and who better to lead the way than the watchdog, the Ombudsman Commission.

The high number of leaders referred by the OC for alleged misconduct in office shows that PNG needs leaders with high moral standards to take the country forward in the next 40 years.

It is crucial for citizens to elect good leaders in the upcoming 2017 National Elections and the Commission has embarked on an election awareness campaign, which was launched yesterday.

Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato was also there and stated that Election 2017 is everybody’s business and not just the Electoral Commission’s.

He therefore urged everyone to vote wisely in the coming elections.

The OC is keen on ‘good leadership’ and asks that citizens make the right choice when they cast their vote, based on these qualities: Integrity, Honesty, Fairness, Accountability, Transparency and Servitude.
