Large Tax Payer Office allows IRC reforms

The Large Tax Payer Office Service center and General Taxpayer Client Service wing at the ground floor of the Internal Revenue Commission’s Revenue Haus was opened today.

This new service center paves the way for the reforms IRC is undertaking, aimed at improving effective and efficient taxpayer service and taxpayer compliance initiatives.

Deputy Prime Minister Charles Abel, IRC Commissioner General Betty Palaso, representatives from the International Monetary Fund, Commercial Banks and other Large Tax Payers witnessed the opening of the new client service center today.

Built at a cost of K2.5 million, it comes with an executive lounge to cater for large tax payers, including those in the resource sector and banks who pay about 80 percent of the tax revenue. This is said improve customer service at IRC. 

The Large Tax Payer lounge, renamed as Palaso lounge will cater for the top 100 payer companies to conduct electronic transactions.

“Particularly companies who have a turnover of K100 million plus, and pay for most of the revenue in terms of corporate income tax, salary and wages tax, GST, etc,” Commissioner General Palaso said.

General tax payers, including SME business who are attended to at the Era Rumana house will now be shifted into the client service center.

“So on the other side that will cater for the general public, there will be 12 counters there so they can come and lodge their returns, register for their Tax Identification Number, make payments etc,” she added.

This is all part of ICR’s reforms and at the same time cater for tax payer services, with plans to also to build another service center at Waigani.
