Lae police prepare for festive period

Lae city police are gearing up for the festive operations.

Anthony Wagambie Jnr says they have already started the pre-festive season operations.

The Lae police boss has given residents the assurance that his team will be out in full force during the Christmas and New Year period.

“They should expect to see police all over the place, we’ll have them positioned in all parts of the city,” he said.

“And I encourage the public to make use of our toll free number – 7090 3300 – to call police if they see anything happening, or anything about to happen, or if they feel unsafe.

“Call the police and we will attend to them immediately.”

Meantime, Wagambie Jnr says different provinces have their own unique challenges in delivering policing services. However, the best way forward is to have a toll free number for the public to reach them.

“You see, police can’t be everywhere every time. It’s only through people reporting. So if you have  a toll free number that people can access 24 hours a day, seven days a week, then that’s the only way we’ll know what’s happening and police can get to incidents.”

Furthermore, on behalf of the police personnel in Lae, Wagambie has extended their best wishes to the rest of the country for this festive period.

“Celebrate peacefully with your families in the spirit of Christmas, have respect for each other, respect others, and as the Bible says: ‘Do unto others what you want them to do unto you’,” he said.
